Similar to Eric Garner’s case, the video on Rodney King’s death illustrates how police officers ignored their duty to uphold general responsibility towards suspects. The video indicates police officers roughing up Rodney. The worst part is that Rodney did not use any force or resist arrest. He was powerless and helpless. The police officers took the law in their hands. Their inhumane action was governed by personal issues rather than professionalism. Unlike the Garner situation, the police find Raheem in a brawl. He resists arrest, and the police officer decides to put him down by choking him. The video, an excerpt from the movie â€Å"Do the Right Thing, 1989† Radio Raheem, a fictional character, is held in a chokehold. Water Pollution Essay One of the major issues that are of great concern in my town is how toxic heavy metals have been deposited into flowing waters. Toxic heavy metals in water, is as a result of untreated pollute deposited into lakes, streams, rivers, by manufacturing industries which in turn is consumed by domestic users. The effluent from such industry is deposited into water bodies or could be washed away from the top soils by flood into drainages which is emptied into such water bodies. The presence of these undesirable elements in foods (fish) is due to the ingestion of water containing industrial and domestic influent. Most of these heavy metals are deposited in the liver of certain vertebrates and fatty tissues of fishes. The amount of each of these elements present in the fish depends on such variables as the amount present in the food chain, size and age of the fishes. Most of these heavy metals (which include Lead, Cadmium, Copper, Zinc e. t. c) are toxic and hazardous to man depending on their concentration in food. Neanderthal Extinction    Neanderthals and modern humans coexisted for well over 100,000 years.   Then suddenly Homo neandertalensis began to die out and surrender the earth to Homo sapiens.   Paleontologists and anthropologists have entertained several possibilities to the causes of this event: interbreeding among Neanderthals and humans, competition for natural resources, and Darwin’s theory of â€Å"survival of the fittest.†Ã‚   What the real cause has been has plagued scientists for years. Now, due to an international research team from Germany, those possibilities have been even further deduced, making it easier to pinpoint the exact reason Homo neandertalensis became extinct.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   Scientists thought that interbreeding would be a logical assumption to the Neanderthal conundrum.   Unfortunately, any evidence of DNA from Neanderthals mixed with human DNA is difficult to come by because their fossils are usually tarnished upon finding.   That is until Svante Paabo, and his research team from the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology, came across the remains of twenty-four Neanderthals and forty early humans.*   All of these fossils were nearly 40,000 years old and were from Germany, Russia, and Croatia.   Nine of these fossils (four Neanderthal and five human) contained mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA), completely intact.   Mitochondrial DNA is tougher than the DNA found in cell nuclei; it is also found in the cytoplasm of a fertilized egg and is passed only through maternal lineage.   This makes it much easier for the team to study and makes testing more accurate.      Paabo’s team, from Leipzig, Germany, used a method of amino acid content as a way of measuring extractible DNA from the bones.   The amino acid method was a... ...ut there on what happened to the Neanderthals, such as competition or fighting.   Scientists also are aware of the fact that mtDNA is only carried from the mother.   This means that there may still be evidence of interbreeding out there that is carried from the male.   Our technology is not yet strong enough to rule out both sexes as a carrier of common genes.   Therefore the case of interbreeding still remains to be closed.   However Paabo and his team are confident that their research has proved that Neanderthals could not have died out solely because of interbreeding.   Scientists are still trying to conclude what exactly did the Neanderthals in; this discovery brings them one step closer, but not completely to the edge.   Source All references and resources are taken from the Public Library of Science, Biology March 2004 issue and from Science March 16, 2004

Employee involvement in Total Quality Management Total Quality Management is one of the major â€Å"workplace change† programmes used in Britain, but few studies have addressed the effects on employees. New research evidence questions optimistic and pessimistic accounts, finding that TQM is widely welcomed but that it does not lead to â€Å"empowerment†, and that success depends on certain conditions, notably job security. Employee Involvement Analysis falls into two main types: ? optimistic texts, which often prescribe ways of implementing TQM and assume a welcome from employees; and ? ritical studies, which either (a) equate TQM with intensified managerial control under the pretence of â€Å"empowerment† or (b) accept that TQM can be effective, but argue that in practice poor implementation has undermined this promise. The critical studies often argue that TQM undermines the representative role of trade unions by strengthening direct links between employer and employee. (a) Employee views More tha n four-fifths of the sample of employees saw quality as the crucial issue for their organisations or as very important. Almost two-thirds felt that employees had a â€Å"great deal† or a â€Å"fair amount† of influence over quality, and over 70 per cent felt that their own involvement in problem-solving had increased. Five employees in six identified the presence of meetings designed for problem-solving.Of the sample, 72% felt that there had been an increase in communication activity recently. The most favourably evaluated method was team briefing, followed by informal communication with individual managers. It was direct, face-to-face, communication which employees most valued. Workers also reported more stress and higher levels of work effort. A key result was that reported levels of trust between management and worker were no higher than in organisations without TQM initiatives. (b) Management and worker expectations Many proponents of TQM claim that it â€Å"empow ers† workers. Critics equate it with work intensification and stress. The study finds that neither picture is accurate.Managements in the organisations studied did not use the language of empowerment and had more pragmatic goals. One manager summed this up: â€Å"empowerment is not a word used at local level; we can and do involve people more but we need to have constraints†. Workers reported higher effort levels, but most liked the pace at which they worked. Those who were working harder and who were most subject to the measurement of their performance were also the most likely to favour quality programmes. These programmes seem to promote a narrowly focused but real sense of discipline and purpose, rather than being a means to make workers work harder, the report concludes. c) Conditions for success Acceptance of TQM was greatest where several conditions prevailed. ? A strong sense of job security was a key element in encouraging acceptance of quality initiatives. ? T raining was important; it was not the overall amount which mattered, but the extent to which programmes were specifically linked to quality or teamwork. ? Cooperative relationships with employee representatives were an important element in easing the acceptance of TQM. All the case study firms were unionised, and it was found that firms which maintained working relationships with their unions were also the most likely to maintain their quality programmes effectively. Short-term pressures tended to undermine TQM initiatives. They were of two kinds: production pressures, which made it hard for quality activities to be maintained; and financial pressures, which could reduce the resources for and commitment to TQM. Do employee involvement and TQM programs work? The employee involvement literature emphasizes design of the work and business units for fuller business involvement and employee motivation. In addition, employee involvement emphasizes making the employee a stakeholder in busin ess performance There is a strong correlation between the adoption of employee involvement approaches and the use of TQM practices†¦The extent to which companies employ the core TQM practices, the production-oriented practices, collaboration with customers, and cost-of-quality monitoring all have a highly significant relationship to our measure of overall employee involvement use. The relationship to the development of knowledge and skills is particularly strong, demonstrating the strong emphasis in TQM programs on the development of skills. TQM's relationship to power sharing is also very strong, reflecting the focus in TQM on problem solving and decision making groups in general and on work cells and teams. The findings with respect to the combined impact of TQM and El are not unexpected: most TQM proponents advocate high levels of employee involvement as part of their TQM efforts.However, the findings do make a very important point: the impact of TQM programs that do not als o include El practices will be less positive both for employee outcomes and for performance outcomes. Lying Essay

Consider thinking about the controversial issue on lying. People usually don’t particularly care about the little white lies, but lying is never a good solution in any situation, because whether it’s a small lie or a big lie, there is always some form of consequence to each and every fib. There are a few certain articles such as, â€Å"A Philosopher on Lying,† by Immanuel Kant who also believe lying should not be tolerated in any way. Just like in the article I mentioned earlier, â€Å"A Philosopher on Lying,† a German philosopher, Immanuel Kant, explains his point of view on lying. Every lie is dangerous; the size of the lie doesn’t matter. As Kant states in the article, â€Å"Don’t tell someone a lie, because then you are not treating the person with respect, as an individual.† If everyone would just imagine the person who they’re lying to, using that same lie towards themselves, they wouldn’t feel very good. If someone believes that the right thing to do is lie, no matter the situation, then everyone else should get the right to lie too. One lie leads to another in most cases, which turns into a huge mess of lies, and that could end up hurting everyone in the end. If someone lies to protect a friend or a family member, is it really being used in the proper situation? Well, it’s only going to hurt the person more in the end, rather than telling the truth in the beginning. If they attempt to keep in a big secret, especially from a close one, it may tear their relationship apart just knowing how long they kept that information from them. It would be much easier and highly worth it to just get the secret over with in the beginning. Keeping in a huge secret from someone has many bad side effects; however, people need to keep in mind that if that person kept something from them, they wouldn’t be happy either. According to an interview, â€Å"Brad Blanton: Honestly, Tell the Truth,† Blanton states that â€Å"Delivering the truth is easier, takes less time, and is less stressful.† Telling the truth sounds easier than it actually is; because action speaks louder than words. That is the main reason majority of people choose to lie. Many people disagree that every single small lie is a bad thing, because they don’t want to cause any pain or harm to the person they are fibbing to. According to the article, â€Å"It’s the Truth: Americans Conflicted about Lying,† Randy Cohen says that, â€Å"Not only is lying justified, it is sometimes a moral duty.† This basically states that people are only trying to protect loved ones from any serious harm. Lying is an issue that people have dealt with for as long as any living person could remember. It creates problems, and that’s pretty much it. I have never seen a lie that led someone to success and have it all work out in the end. Lying isn’t the right way to go, because someone will always suffer from some kind of consequence, big or small. It is much easier to tell the truth and get it over with, rather than keeping it away as a secret and end up spilling the truth out later. Fibbing is dangerous and always messes with peoples head, ending up in a line of regrets. If someone’s like me, lies almost never work out like how they’ll plan it in the end. Always tell the truth, because it gives respect, receives respect, and it’s definitely worth it in the end.

Through the years, the idea of an income ceiling has been brought up several times as the solution to the supposed problem in the U.S. of a very small percentage of the population controlling a very large percentage of the assets of the country. One of the first times this suggestion was made was in conjunction with the proposal of a minimum wage in the early 20th century. During his 1932 campaign for Presidency, Franklin D. Roosevelt argued that the economic problem of the post-depression U.S. wasnt an insufficiency of capital, but an insufficient distribution of buying power coupled with an over sufficient speculation in production. In other words, the problem was not that the rich people didnt have enough money to invest, but that no one else had any money to buy (Long 298). A similar theme is found in economist Ravi Batras argument that recessions are caused by unequal distribution of income. Batra also notes that all great depressions have been preceded by great speculative manias triggered by high wealth disparity. Roosevelt, Batra, and many economists have agreed that as rich people become richer and more wealth is controlled by fewer people, more people are left with few or no assets. This fact creates a higher demand for loans, but the people who demand these loans are less credit-worthy, therefore the number of banks with questionable loans rises (Batra 117). Tax money would be used to pay for peoples tuition's into college. Later those individuals would repay the government by two years of low paying community service. Evidence of data that supports my position from the excerpt is that America has provided a trust fund before. The Servicemen's Readjustment Act of 1944 helped to educate an entire generation of people, and 95 percent of its beneficiaries. This wide success helped prove that an investment in citizens' education is very useful to all parties involved. This position can also be supported with prior knowledge, as I know that people who go to college are more likely to get a high paying job. A public value to people receiving higher education is that people who go to college are less likely to have reliance on government financial supports later in life. Another reason that this would benefit the government is that after college, the individual would have to take a low paying national service job. In conclusion, I find that this trust fund would not only benefit the people that received the funding but also the government as well. The government would gain because after the students have completed college they would receive a worker at a low price. The person receiving the fund would receive a higher education, but later would have to repay society by working for low wages in a government job. So, when all is done, most of the costs, both monetary and otherwise, are balanced out.

Pasaporte Para Viajar a EEUU en Casos Doble Ciudadanà ­a Frecuentemente, las personas con doble ciudadanà ­a se preguntan si pueden ingresar sin visa a Estados Unidos por turismo o negocios utilizando el pasaporte que es de un paà ­s incluido en el listado del Programa de Exencià ³n de Visas, aunque no residen habitualmente en dicho paà ­s. La respuesta es sà ­, aunque deben conocerse las excepciones y cundo pueden surgir los problemas.   Ventajas e inconvenientes de viajar sin visa a Estados Unidos Los ciudadanos de 38 paà ­ses, entre los que se encuentran Chile y Espaà ±a, pueden ingresar a los Estados Unidos sin visa. Si llegan por avià ³n de là ­nea regular o barco deben antes de volar una autorizacià ³n que se conoce como ESTA. Una ventaja evidente de viajar sin visa es que la ESTA es mucho ms econà ³mica. En el momento de escribir este articulo el costo de la ESTA es de $14 frente a $160 de la visa B1/B2, cuyo precio final puede ser incluso superior para algunos paà ­ses, en aplicacià ³n de acuerdos de reciprocidad. Otra ventaja econà ³mica es que en caso de negacià ³n, se recuperan $10 en el caso de la ESTA, por lo cual el coste total es de $4. Por el contrario, si no es aprobada la solicitud de la visa de turista o negocios o la combinada de ambas, el solicitante no recupera nada. En otras palabras, pierde los $160 dà ³lares. Como regla general, si se ingresa a Estados Unidos con visa de turista se recibe una autorizacià ³n de 180 dà ­as, es decir, 6 meses. Ese plazo es el ms comà ºn, aunque puede ser inferior si asà ­ lo decide un oficial de migracià ³n. El plazo autorizado est reflejado en el documento que se conoce como I-94. Por el contrario, si se viaja con visa el tiempo mximo de estancia en Estados Unidos es de 90 dà ­as, ni uno ms. Otra gran diferencia es que si se ingresa con visa es posible solicitar una extensià ³n de la estancia y tambià ©n un cambio de visa, por ejemplo, de turista a estudiante. Sin embargo, si se ingresa a Estados Unidos sin visa no es posible alargar el  plazo de 90 de ninguna de las maneras. En otras palabras, la ley no contempla la peticià ³n de extensià ³n o de cambio a otra visa no inmigrante. Es imposible. Por lo tanto hay que salir del paà ­s antes de cumplir los 90 dà ­as de presencia.  Adems, es recomendable evitar juegos como salir a Mà ©xico, Bahamas o Canad y regresar con la idea de obtener asà ­ otros 90 dà ­as. Lo cierto es que en estos casos se regresa no con un nuevo plazo, sino con los dà ­as que quedasen del anterior. Incluso hay que tener en cuenta que se est jugando con fuego en los casos de salida al paà ­s de origen o cuando se viaja a paà ­ses adyacentes como Mà ©xico y Canad y se fuerza al là ­mite el plazo de los 90 dà ­as antes de salir de tal manera que ya no hay dà ­as restantes en el primer plazo cuando se regresa y se quiere obtener un nuevo trimestre. Puede suceder que el oficial de migracià ³n considere que se est viviendo en Estados Unidos, sospeche que se est trabajando o estudiando sin visa, etc. lo cual llevarà ­a a que se prohà ­ba el ingreso al paà ­s e incluso acabar con el castigo de una expulsià ³n inmediata.  ¿Viajar con un pasaporte o con los dos? Esta es una pregunta muy comà ºn entre las personas con doble ciudadanà ­a que deciden ingresar a Estados Unidos sin visa. La respuesta no es à ºnica y se ilustra mejor con casos especificos. Por ejemplo, en el caso de un argentino que vive en Argentina pero que tiene tambià ©n pasaporte italiano deberà ­a viajar con sus dos pasaportes. Asà ­, saldrà ­a de Argentina con el de ese paà ­s pero mostrarà ­a ya allà ­ el italiano para que le permitan embarcar. Al ingresar y tambià ©n al salir de Estados Unidos. Al llegar a Argentina, mostrarà ­a ese pasaporte para entrar a su paà ­s. Otro ejemplo distinto es el de, por ejemplo, un argentino que reside habitualmente en Italia y tiene tambià ©n pasaporte de ese paà ­s. En este caso, utilizarà ­a solamente el pasaporte italiano. Quà © problemas pueden surgir al llegar al control migratorio de los Estados Unidos En principio, los problemas potenciales son los mismos si se viajan con visa o sin visa. Ninguna de las dos situaciones garantiza el ingreso. Lo que importa es que la persona que quiere ingresar como turista tiene que ser considerada como elegible y admisible para ingresar a Estados Unidos. Si se considera que reà ºne tal cualidad, no hay problema. De hecho, son miles las personas con doble ciudadanà ­a que deciden viajar sin visa y nunca han tenido problemas. En otras palabras, el problema no es la visa o la no visa, sino si se cumplen los requisitos para ingresar o no. En este punto decir que hay noticias que apuntan a que se les ha negado el ingreso en repetidas ocasiones a dominicanos que viajan a Estados Unidos recià ©n adquieren la ciudadanà ­a de un paà ­s incluido en el listado de los Paà ­ses con Exencià ³n de Visado (VWP, por sus siglas en inglà ©s). No es que no puedan viajar, es que por la razà ³n que sea puede haber levantado sospechas de que su intencià ³n es quedarse en los Estados Unidos. Si se tiene duda, la opcià ³n es olvidarse de viajar sin visa y solicitar una B1/B2.   Finalmente decir en relacià ³n a este punto de los posibles problemas que pueden encontrar  los cubanos para embarcar sin visa en un vuelo hacia Estados Unidos. Lo cierto es que miles de cubanos embarcan e ingresan sin ningà ºn problema. Pero no es menos cierto que se les puede impedir incluso embarcar si se sospecha que su intencià ³n es quedarse en Estados Unidos y pedir que se les aplique la Ley de Ajuste Cubano una vez que estn allà ­. Excepciones a viajar sin visa en los casos de doble ciudadanà ­a En determinadas ocasiones no es posible que las personas con doble ciudadanà ­a decidan que prefieren viajar sin visa y deben solicitar la visa si es que quieren viajar como turistas a los Estados Unidos. Entre otras situaciones destacan las siguientes: Cuando previamente le han negado una visa, aunque la solicitaran con otro pasaporte. La visa se le negà ³ a la persona, no al pasaporte y las autoridades migratorias saben que se trata de la misma persona al cotejar las huellas digitales que se dieron al solicitar la visa con las que se toman en el punto de ingreso a Estados Unidos (puerto, aeropuerto o paso terrestre fronterizo). Otra situacià ³n que pide por solicitar la visa es cuando previamente una persona ha tenido una visa americana y à ©sta ha sido cancelada. Otro caso es cuando se ha visitado anteriormente Estados Unidos y el visitante se ha quedado ms tiempo del autorizado.   Finalmente, todos los casos en los que ha habido en el pasado situaciones problemticas, como violaciones migratorias, deportaciones, expulsiones inmediatas, etc. Otras situaciones de doble ciudadanà ­a o nacionalidad Estados Unidos, por regla general, no tiene ningà ºn problema con la doble ciudadanà ­a, tambià ©n conocida como doble nacionalidad. Esto es asà ­ en el caso de extranjeros que pueden utilizar el pasaporte que deseen, como se ha explicado en este artà ­culo, pero tambià ©n en otros como para aplicar por visas limitadas a ciertos paà ­ses como es el caso de la visa de inversià ³n E-2. Asà ­,por ejemplo, un venezolano no puede beneficiarse de esa visa pero si cuenta con otro pasaporte como puede ser el de Colombia, Espaà ±a, Portugal, etc, puede solicitarla. Pero tambià ©n es el caso de sus propios ciudadanos. Estados Unidos admite la doble nacionalidad y casi no impone là ­mites a esta situacià ³n. De interà ©s para turistas en Estados Unidos La mejor forma de evitar problemas migratorios, tanto si se ingresa con visa o con ESTA, es cumplir con la ley, por lo que se recomienda tomar este test para conocer aspectos fundamentales. El caso especial de Canad Como regla general, los ciudadanos de Canad no necesitan ni visa ni ESTA para ingresar a Estados Unidos como turistas y el permiso de estancia es por 6 meses.   Esto aplica a los canadienses que tambià ©n son ciudadanos de otro paà ­s, es decir, a los casos de doble ciudadanà ­a. The only reason why they would choose to censor these stories was if the programs gave an opinion that reflected badly on the government. Thus, the government chooses to censor these programs in order to protect their own means. While there are strong arguments that support this view, there are various reasons to prove that managing resistance to change may, in fact, may not be a good idea always. One reason why resistance to change may be productive is that it prevents bad/wrong ideas from being assimilated in the organization. Employee resistance to change allows firms to rethink â€Å"why† they are changing. In other words, it allows leadership to reconsider the business case for change with a critical perspective. If all employees agreed and there was no resistance, clearly management could oversee the ‘downside’ of changing making it unprofitable for the firm in the long run. Furthermore, because resistance to change often comprises of the fear factor (including loss of status, power or even job for employees), it encourages the top management to discover the impact that change would have on the ‘people’. Therefore, resistance to change is essential in the sense that it allows management to develop an open-ended view of change and consider the drawbacks of change. By doing so, managers can then come up with policies and procedures to counter the drawbacks and make change more workable and feasible for employees. Furthermore, the fact that resistance is seen as a â€Å"problem† to change leads management to derive strategies to overcome rather than engage it. Managers may often go at length to reduce the ‘threat’ of resistance and, in doing so, may adopt tactics that may be harmful to the organization. As a result, it is common to find management taking on an overly defensive role in trying to push the change too hard as well as become overly protective of their status in trying to win the argument against disgrun tled employees (Watson, 1982). This occurs because management views resistance to change as a reactive process in which agents possessing power oppose the reactions of other agents (Jermier et al., 1994). This leads them into an evitable trap whereby the management becomes overly concerned with protecting their position and argument rather than listening to what the disgruntled employees have to say. As a result, communication is reduced and the situation evolves into a manager-employee conflict. This stems from the fact that managers may alienate employees who are seen as obstacles rather than resources for change. Consequently, this conflict results in loss of reputation and poor relationships with employees, thereby reducing the morale of employees. Additionally, managing resistance to change often brings with the incorrect assumption that resistance is a one-sided phenomenon. Managers may become overly simplistic to assume that resistance is caused only by the attitudes and beha viors of employees. In fact, many models, such as three dimensional model of change, are based on the inherent assumption that resistance is solely the product of the behavior, emotions and attitudes of the employees (Hayes, 2010). Under this view, managers attempt to see the resistors as irrational and self-centered and consequently, try to block their interference in the change process. Although this true, resistance to change can be attributed partially to the way in which the organization is bringing about change and the behavior of managers in this respect. The Japanese citizens were forbidden from leaving or entering the country after staying in overseas for a long time. The Japanese authorities were thorough in their investigation of traces of Christianity. All these steps were focused towards the complete suppression of Chri stianity. Trade was immensely affected by the 1635 edicts. The Japanese natives were refrained from buying directly goods from foreign ships. Goods that originated from foreign ships were bought directly from Nagasaki where Chinese merchants operated their businesses. All the Japanese currencies brought by foreign ships were distributed to local traders in cities. Direct trade between the Japanese traders and foreigners ended in 1636 when the departure date for foreign ships was set on the 20th day of the 29th month. This day was set by the Japanese trade authority and included in the 1635 edict (Laver, 2011). The media can also however have a beneficial influence on the perception of women footballer, for instance, the creation of role models. There is a distinct lack of role models in the womens game in the UK; however this is different in America. After the Womens World Cup in 1999 which was set in America, a majority of players in the U.S squad were made households names, made appearances in advertisements and also received sponsorship. A role model is a very important tool in order to attract young females to football. It is a person who is regarded by others as a good example to follow (Collins dictionary 2003). The English equivalent to womens football hasnt created many female role models on the pitch; however, it has seen certain females in a position of authority within football. One early example of women in positions of authority in the males game was Annie Bassett, who became the first senior female Marketing Executive of a professional football club in 1987. Using my previous knowledge there are only a couple of females which come to mind when I think of role models in connection with football. Firstly Kelly Smith, who is currently playing football for England and a team in the U.S, she was the first English female to be transferred to America. The second person who comes to mind is Karren Brady, the first female managing director at a professional club. Sepp Blatter could be correct with his prediction that the future is feminine however there is still a great deal of development needed in the womens game. Females are starting to appear more and more in the male game, however there isnt enough publicity given to them, therefore it is difficult to find a role model. Most of the better known females which could be classed as role models are involved more with mens football rather than womens football, for instance, Wendy Toms the first female football assistant referee in England. The fact that football is so popular worldwide confuses the fact that womens football isnt as popular as the males equivalent. I have already discussed possible reasons why womens football isnt seen in a good light by many individuals, both females and males. Obviously individuals in connection with the womens game want to improve interest, attendance and enthusiasm for the sport, however without using certain decision making techniques and problem solving skills, they may struggle to improve this. I am going to continue to firstly introduce some problem solving tools, and then will go on to try and suggest certain improvements which could be made to the womens game. As I have already addressed some problems which I am faced with in relation to this issue, I am going to further investigate into problem solving. G. Brown and M. Atkins (1988) devised a problem solving technique which involved four stages. Stage one involves identifying and stating the problem, dissecting it and exploring it. The problem that I am addressing is related to why womens football isnt as popular as the men game. I have identified possible reasons behind this in my essay, including the medias influence, the lack of role models, and the bad publicity which female athletes or players receive. The second stage requires me to use previous knowledge of problem and relate it to similar problems. Thirdly I need to devise an approach to try and solve the problem. Finally I need to evaluate my approach. There are many approaches to help to solve a problem. Brainstorming is a good method which usually involves setting a question then in a group deciding on many possible answers. These answers are usually written down without judgement and accuracy. However once enough answers have been brainstormed, they need to be evaluated to see exactly how accurate they may be. For all problem solvers there is a process to follow. Moreover in conjunction with G. Brown and M.Atkins theory, there needs to be certain stages. The problem needs to be firstly recognised, and then defined. Before the problem is analysed there is a need for some decision making, for instance, the desired situation and objective need to be clear. Once this is completed, the problem needs to be analysed, and furthermore possible solutions need to be suggested. Once this has been completed the solution needs to be assessed and evaluated.

The Graduate This paper will be both a critique as well as an analysis of the relationships between both my generation and the time period in which the movie took place. In the critique, I which to look at the movie score and the dependency that I felt Ben and Katherine had for each other. There were several issues that I felt my generation had in common with Ben's generation. These issues were the need to rebel and the detachment we feel from our parents. There were several aspects of the movie, which I think should have been removed. The first aspect is the movie score, which was sung by Paul Simon and composed by Simon and Garfunckel. In my opinion, the music was very folksy. Folksy in the way that it should be something that people meditate to not listen to on a movie screen. I also felt the movie score did not fit in with the movie, because the music was too mundane for the fast pace of the movie. The next aspect is the dependency that Ben and Katherine had for the other. I do believe that they really loved each other, but that each person represented something that the other did not see in themselves. I felt that Katherine saw in Ben his rebellious behavior which she wish she had and Ben wished that he had Katherine's quiet and peaceful spirit. I really felt this movie related to my generation because it touched on a few important issues that are still common now. Questions regarding the nature of truth have always been central to not only philosophers, but all men (and women, of course) who possess any desire for knowledge. For while truth itself is an elusive concept, it is also the underlying theme of all science -- which is the basis of knowledge -- and so the seeker of learning must first discover his own truth about the world; without a strong belief, the slippery nature of truth will only serve to confuse and mislead the student of life. A person who is lacking a basic understanding of truth can never fully grasp the fine distinction between appearance and reality, yet the ability to separate the two is essential to anyone interested in knowledge at a higher level, where appearances lead only to dead ends. Or do they? And who says appearance is not reality? At the heart of this matter is the conflict between truth as an absolute and the truth of the senses; while this may seem like a trivia l matter (truth is true, isn't it?), it is anything but. If there does indeed exist an absolute truth, as the Socratics claim, then all attempts to understand the universe are futile, since human senses can never adequately grasp a truth that is so far above everyday experience. On the other hand, the Epicurean view of truth is much more encouraging; after all, this explanation of truth as being of the senses offers the hope that individuals have the ability to create, and therefore understand, their own universe. The Epicureans, by advocating truth of the senses, basically claim that whatever appears to be something, really is, whereas followers of Socrates would disc... ...y that this debate over its relativity can ever be satisfactorily settled. Nevertheless, both philosophies have valid arguments, and each also has its merits from the common man's point of view; while Plato's truth appeals to the seekers of knowledge and idealists who dream of a perfect world, Lucretius' definition of truth brings comfort to those who need to believe that what they can see and feel is a reliable representation of reality. Both of these explanations could be valid, yet the question remains, and will continue to haunt philosophers as long as man continues to philosophize: what is truth, and if someone accidentally stumbles on its actual nature, how will he recognize it when all he has learned is the art of doubt? This sometimes leads to suboptimal results and explains the difference between the ideal classical financial market of a rational investor and the real world. Another pattern that manifests itself and lead to irrationality in decision making in the financial market is overconfidence.Ritter (2003), notes that entrepreneurs tend to be overconfident and hence invest too much in stocks or options that they are familiar with. This can be termed as an irrational tendency to the extent that it leads overconfident entrepreneurs tend to limit their options by not diversify ing their portfolio hence irrational since they tie up their assets (for example real estates) to the company they are familiar with partly due to the fact that they would feel in control of local familiar stocks compared to high returns stocks that are outside their control, this is referred to as control illusions.A good example world over is the fact that most workers tend to invest too much in the company they work for and this has led to loss of entire savings to many of the companies in the event of insolvency (see Ritter, 2003 pg. 434 for examples). Furthermore, it was noted that generally, men are more overconfident than women and this behavior extends to investment decisions. It was found out in a research by Bernard and Odeon (2001 as quoted in Ritter 2003) that the more men on average perform worse than women and this is partly attributed to the fact that they are overconfident than women.

Conflict Process Analysis

My thesis is a story of a dispute about a mobile phone and phone expenses between Telecommunication (a Chinese mobile telephone operation company) and me. I will use some organizational conflict theories, several types of conflicts and methods to handle with them to finish my dissertation. Telecommunication offered considerable discounts, while the rules were harsh. Staffs did not know the specific regulations, and I lost the best opportunity to undo the damage. The conflict occurred because of those things.Finally we overcame these obstacles with a good alternative. Handing with mobile phone affairs is close to our daily life. Moreover, it includes interest between the customer, Telecommunication and its staffs. My counterparts and I were strangers originally. Then we became game rivals through the event, and after that we became friends. Describe the situation of this dispute, the analysis of the situation and evaluations for Telecommunications are integral to my paper. Description of the Situation The owner of a branch of B & you, Flavor, two staffs, Julie and Sophie were involved in the conflict.Flavor is the boss of Julie and Sophie, and I was their customer. I asked to cancel the contract, however, Julie explained it was impossible. Because all the data about me has been uploaded to corporation, and the contract has been activated.She added that on the last day of August, she tried to inform about it and anted to ask me if I accept it or not, but the call was not connected. We cannot comprise with each other. Flavor insisted the contract can not be cancelled. If it was cancelled, she had to compensate for this phone (this phone belonged to B &you company). At the same time, I cannot accept the full price of the bill. For a student, 68 RMI per month was expensive. And B &you are not the most popular mobile companies. My friends tend to use Orange, whose services are better.If there had not been two vouchers, I would have not considered to use B &you. Flavor would regard the conflict as a loss in business. Apparently, the main issue was that we should we cancel the contract which the company added some rules in or not.
